It obviously needed some work to fit into our house a little better so I kept my eye on it for a makeover. Right now, she's a lot like Jennifer Gray when she is shy and awkward Baby.
[Back to the Eighties] |
First, I had to strip her down so that any new paint would stick. I used a medium grit sandpaper and sanded all of the shine off (technical term there). Basically, I didn't think it would require me to get all the way down to bare wood so I just roughed it up a little.
I still get nervous about paint going on well and all so I almost always prime (even when advised it isn't necessary). I grabbed some spray primer from the store and put on one coat.
Once the primer was dry (hello, 10 minute drying time!), I grabbed my spray paint can and got busy. I chose spray paint for this one because of all the rounded edges and design work. For a novice furniture painter like moi, that would have been a nightmare to paint by hand.
I flipped it over to get the legs really well.
I ended up with two to three coats to cover the chair really well but that totaled less than 2 cans of spray paint!
This little makeover wasn't finished yet. The makeup part was done but now she needed new clothes. I had planned to use plain fabric and then stencil the seat cover but then I stumbled upon this great fabric in the remnant pile at G Street Fabric.
I just lined it up over the chair insert and stapled it on the backside. I didn't even bother removing the old fabric that was already on there.
Done and done! This little chair is ready for prime time...maybe somewhere not in a corner too!
Transformed any furniture with the press of a {spray paint} button recently? Scored any great fabric in the remnant bin?
