Let's Have a Party: The Gift Cake

So, last week, I shared the favors and bean salad from Liz's recent baby shower. I'm back to show you a another detail of our Dragon Baby celebration :)

I knew we would be doing cupcakes versus an actual cake at the shower.  But, I still wanted to have a centerpiece type item for the table that a cake would normally provide.

So, I decide to make a gift cake.
{In complete disclosure, the plan started with me making a diaper cake but sleep won out over that project.}

I bought a box of diapers as the base of my "cake" and then created the other layers with different types of gifts like wipes, baby medications and other fun stuff.
I even found some super adorable stickers with 1-12 months on it  for baby pictures later.
I wrapped all of my layers in wrapping paper and tissue paper {I alternated}. Then, I put glue on the bottom of the second layer so that it would stick.

Once the glue was all dry and my gifts were set together {thanks to the help of some canned beans}, I was ready to decorate! I used some fun polka dot ribbon and wrapped it vertically on the "cake". Then, I put some fun little toys on the outside and stuck them with double sided table.

Love things that serve two purposes: a gift for the mom to be AND an easy decoration!
