My dryer eats socks. Or maybe it is my washer. In reality, it could be the laundry hamper too. I don't know what is actually eating them but I just know that two socks go into the hamper but, when the laundry is all done, two socks don't always make it out.
Now I am all about being honest and open with you all so I will tell you that I am 100% spoiled rotten when it comes to laundry. I rarely ever see the socks go into the washer or dryer because I rarely {if ever} do laundry in our household. Mathlete's mom visits once per week and, while here, washes, dries and folds all of our laundry. There...I admitted it.
Please don't hate me...I know how amazing having someone do that is! In fact, I plan to pay that forward with my own kids one day because it is such a life/time saver for us.
Now, back to socks. I need a place to display these lonely, forgotten socks from one laundry day until the next in the hopes that their mate will come stumbling out of the washer or dryer confused and desperately seeking its other half.
A lost socks board is my answer to this problem!
I grabbed two 12x12 canvases and some vinyl for my letters.
I cut out the words Lost and Socks on my Silhouette Cameo using the black vinyl sheets. Since this was going in my laundry room which hardly anyone sees, my original plan was a simple black and white design.
That plan didn't last long. I ended up painting the canvas in some Martha Stewart lagoon paint that I had gotten on the clearance rack.
Then, I painted my letters red {I didn't have any red vinyl handy or I would have just re-cut my letters}.
I wrapped around the canvas in some yellow and red dotted washi tape.
Then, I painted my clothes pins in a yellow and covered some of them in washi tape as well.
I attached them to the canvas with some hot glue and then hung them on the wall.
Those socks don't stand a chance of staying alone now!
Do you have a sock eating dryer? How do you keep your socks together so they survive the laundry?
Ok, now to the really fun times...free stuff! I have a giveaway for $25 to Expressions Vinyl so that you can make your own project using vinyl letters and/or shapes.

ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea - I've added to my laundry room pin board!
ReplyDeleteI can tell you what is eating your socks...it's a sock monster. I have one at my house too. They are wily creatures and slink from dryer to washer to hamper virtually undetected. I love this idea! Absolutely adorable! I wish I had a Mathlete's Mom, if you ever start manufacturing them I'll take two...one for me and one for a friend :) Thanks for sharing such a cute project!
ReplyDeleteSock ninjas. I have them too. They also like to stretch out the elastic bands of underwear. I just posted a clothes pin project, and have lots leftover. This will be a good use of them.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! We lose sooo many socks!!!

Love this idea, super sweet...Thanks for linking up to Creative Mondays :)
ReplyDeleteEvery home needs one of these! The sock monster seems particularly fond of my son's socks, his drawer is full of half pairs.
ReplyDeleteI love this! Our lost socks are currently just stacked on our dresser and they always bug me, I really need to get around to making a sign!
ReplyDeleteLucky:)
ReplyDeleteI've got a mate-less sock board, too. Right now it features a sock whose mate died (major hole - eventually one of the other pairs will lose a mate) and a lone pink glove.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea, I have the same problem my dryer eats socks :). Stopping by from show me what you got link party
