DIY Kitchen Curtains

I don't sew.  The only things I have ever sewn in my life were two pillows for home ec in school.  One square and one that was supposed to be a heart but looked more like a lumpy kidney.

Thankfully, I married into a family where sewing is like breathing...So, when I wanted new kitchen curtains, I knew exactly who to turn to.

We started with this gorgeous fabric and cut it to fit the windows.
A good tip:  when you are cutting, fold the fabric over and use it as a guide.
We pinned the hems and then my mother in law started sewing the panels.
We made two full length panels for the sliders, a valance and a cafe curtain.

Sorry for the awful quality pictures but this is the hardest place to photograph.

  2. Those look great. My mom has sewn all my life, so I agree that it's great to have someone around that knows what to do!

I actually used really similar fabric to sew a bench cushion. Check it out here: http://projectsatthepicketts.blogspot.com/2012/04/piping-hot.html

  3. Love the fabric Shannah... I've been searching for some fabric for my kitchen windows as well... they have been bare like we just moved in for about a month after we repainted... I don't want to hang just anything up! This gives me the inspiration I need to get fabric searching!

  4. Hi Shannah! I love the way your curtains turned out! Beautiful fabric! I am not very good with the sewing machine but my mom loved sewing. I'd rather be in the kitchen :)

Fun stopping by to visit with you!

  9. Oh, I LOVE this fabric! I think I first seen it on Young House Love and have pined for it ever since, lol. Where did you get it? I think YHL got it from an outlet store that we don't have in Florida.
